The social and environmental history of the pulp industry - a workshop
Cardboard boxes, paper cups, your notebook… Have you ever thought about the journey of paper before it reaches your hands? Let's dive into the world of the paper industry. Join us in unraveling the layers of how the pulp industry of South America and Sweden engages in extractivism. No previous knowledge required. Free Fika!
We will start off with a short lecture to explain the basic concepts of extractivism and present how the logging industries of Colombia and Sweden are intertwined. After this, we will show a testimony by an affected local and short clips of a documentary. Then we will engage in a workshop, with an open discussion with the opportunity to raise questions, talk about personal experiences and think about how global mechanisms affect our everyday life. There will be facilitators with knowledge on the topic to help steer the discussion.
The event, held in English, is open to everyone, and free. No previous knowledge on the topic is required. Fika will be provided, giving guests the option to stay longer to talk with the organisers in a more relaxed setting.
The event is organised by a collaboration between The Social Sciences Student Union PLUTO and the Ecosocialist Collective.
This event is part of Sustainability Week 2024, an annual event organized in collaboration between Lund University and Lund Municipality. In this year's program April 8-13, you will find lectures, workshops, guided tours, exhibitions, and more.
