*Fully booked* Four climate solutions: techniques to remove carbon dioxide - CCS, CCU and CDR explained
High greenhouse gas emissions have been a recognised problem for over a hundred years. At the same time, the phase-out of fossil fuels is slow. Today's debate highlights different ways to reach net-zero emissions targets, and discussions on ultimate solutions are loud. During Sustainability Week, we highlight four options and discuss the opportunities and risks from a scientific perspective.
Today's breakfast seminar explains and discusses technologies that remove large amounts of carbon dioxide. Can they help us reach net zero? Find out more about CCS, CCU and CDR.
Within Sweden, and across the globe, carbon removal technologies are becoming increasingly popular because of their potential to reduce or bring about negative carbon emissions, and thus limit global temperature rise by up to 2 degrees Celsius. How are they meant to work, when can they be implemented, and what are the risks and advantages with these new techniques?
Speakers
Welcome to a breakfast seminar with Léa Lévy, associate senior lecturer at the Department of Biomedical Engineering, LTH and Lina Lefstad, PhD student at Lund University Centre for Sustainability Studies, who will explain and give examples of CCS (carbon capture and storage), CCU (carbon capture and utilisation) and CDR (carbon capture and removal). They will analyse whether these techniques can be the solution to climate change, and if removing vast amounts of carbon dioxide can really help us reach net zero.
The talk will be moderated by Terese Thoni, educational coordinator at Sustainability Forum.
