What is lost and what is gained as we rise from the carbon ruins?

plane
Hållbarhetsveckan 2019
The effects of climate change will transform our world as know it. People are already starting to change their behavior: social movements are encouraging us to stop flying, eat meat and consume less. On the social internet, aviation-junkies and shopaholics are being shamed for their indulgences. There is a growing awareness that, to mitigate climate change, we have to give up something near and dear to us, like our annual trip to Thailand. How can we collectively handle the loss associated with climate change, grieve and move forward, to focus on the bright future associated with a decarbonized lifestyle? And how do we rethink our values and lifestyles to be compatible with a climate-safe future?

Welcome to a seminar exploring emotions, loss, and behavioral change in a time of political and ethical debate on responses to climate change. How could and should we talk about climate change to inspire change, not apathy? What are the best ways forward, and how do we handle guilt, loss and pressure, online and offline?

Using the exhibition Carbon Ruins as a backdrop, Lund University Centre for Sustainability Studies (LUCSUS) and LU Sustainability Forum welcome you to a discussion on how we move past climate anxiety and towards hope.

This event is part of Sustainability Week 2019.
